The Story Behind 'Peak Energy'

Today, I’m launching my blog for Peak Energy Health Coaching, so a fitting topic for my first conversation with this community is about how I came up with the name Peak Energy. I disagree with Juliet Capulet’s statement, “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose, by any other word would smell as sweet.” A name isn’t just a label, it’s a representation of something’s true nature. It took me a while to come up with Peak Energy because I needed to find a name that represented both what’s important to me and what I offer my clients.
Peak
The symbolism of mountains spans across cultures and centuries, yet most interpretations of what mountains represent are the same. Mountains symbolize a higher perspective, fully aware consciousness, and rising above petty circumstances. In terms of health coaching, mountains can symbolize achieving goals and overcoming obstacles.
My personal connection with mountains began when I was a kid. I grew up exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains on weekend trips to Shenandoah National Park, listening to “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver as we explored the different overlooks of Skyline Drive. I’ve always felt at home in the mountains, choosing them as a vacation destination over the beach any day. My husband and I moved to the mountains in 2023 and I felt like my soul and my environment finally clicked into place.
Jon Kabat Zinn, in his “The Mountain” meditation, invites you to imagine yourself as a mountain. Your head is the lofty peak, your shoulders and body are the gently sloping sides. As the days turn into nights, as the seasons change, as the weather patterns change with clouds sometimes enshrouding the peak, obscuring it from view, as tourists come and go, the mountain just sits. Regardless of what is happening in its environment, the mountain is unphased and just sits, being its rooted, majestic, essential self. This is powerful imagery to me because regardless of what the world, my environment, or my day throws at me, through it all, I can just sit. This mindset (and deep breathing) is actually what got me through unmedicated childbirth!
Energy
Weight loss is one of the most popular reasons that people seek out a health coach. Weight is an indicator of health and losing a specific amount can be a useful, measurable goal to set as part of a health coaching program. However, in my practice, weight loss is just part of the story.
I focus on energy because it’s a non-scale victory and it not only contributes to weight loss, it also improves other aspects of a client’s life as well. It’s a holistic journey that involves mind, body, and soul healing. When I work with a client, I look for the COMPLETE story around their current energy level and their body. I walk my client step-by-step through…
What to eat that’s right for their body
When to eat
How to eat/move/prioritize their time
Where to eat/spend their time
And most importantly…
Why they eat/move/don’t move
Who they are being when they eat/move through their day
Chances are good that weight loss diets and tricks haven’t worked for my clients in the past because they focused on what they couldn’t eat, with the most important indicators of success being the calories consumed and the number on the scale. My coaching method addresses every part of my client – mind, body, and soul – and uses their energy level as the most important measure of success. I want them to walk away from our time together with the energy to achieve not only what they need to do, but what they want to do as well.
This business and my coaching program are deeply personal to me, and I am honored to share it with this community. I hope you’ll subscribe and continue to engage, sharing your perspectives on health, energy, and everything in between, by following me on Instagram @peak_energy_hc. I look forward to being on this journey together, and providing you with the right system, support, and accountability to achieve your health and energy goals!
